Left to right: Prawn Dumpling Noodle Soup, Pork Dumpling Noodle Soup
I planned to visit the original shop of Mak’s Noodle in Central, Hong Kong. Well, chanced upon one of its branch instead while I was on The Peak finding a suitable place for dinner so I decided to settle for it there. Mak’s Noodle is famous for its wonton noodles, one star Michelin award and also other various awards.
Firstly, I would like to emphasize the portion is small. When I mean small, its defined in terms of a lady’s usual appetite. For guys, you probably can try out 2-3 bowls of variety in order to fill up for a meal. So I consider it to be costly.
I understand what made this commoner food so well deserved of many awards – its noodles! The springy noodles was so well made, it tastes so good I never had this before. There was a good texture to it, neither flour-ish nor hard and I should describe it ‘came to life’ in my mouth on every bite. Accompanied the noodles were the handmade dumplings, or most chinese call it the wonton (a smaller version of dumplings). You get 4 wontons per bowl of noodles, all wrapped up in thin dumpling skin, that it melts in your mouth leaving its meaty and juicy ingredients for savour in your next chew. The broth is also the big thing! Its light and clear but uplifts the noodles’ scent and the sweet taste of the wontons.
Don’t fancy noodles in soup? You can also try out their dry noodles tossed in sauce, comes with a separate bowl of soup wontons.
